Danny Boyle’s Indian romance added more trophies today to its growing treasure chest with a whopping seven Orange British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs), including best picture, director, adapted screenplay, score, and cinematography.
“Slumdog” was a winner yet again at the Writers Guild of 
America awards this morning, with Simon Beaufoy nabbing the coveted award for best original screenplay. In a refreshing twist, “Milk”‘s neophyte screenwriter Dustin Lance Black also bested veterans Eric Roth (“Benjamin Button”) and Peter Morgan (“Frost/Nixon”) in the screenplay competition.
Not surprisingly, Kate Winslet continued her winning streak at the BAFTAs, claiming the award for best leading actress in “The Reader.”
If past awards seasons are any indication, Boyle, Winslet, and Beaufoy should get to work on their acceptance speeches for the 81st Academy Awards on February 22. All of the other competitors would be advised to work on their polite, frozen smiles.
