Dan Savage (creator of the Savage Love sex advice column, the popular Savage Lovecast podcast, the ITMFA campaign, and the It Gets Better Project ) is bringing the HUMP! Film Festival back to Los Angeles from February 20th through February 29th, 2020.
Now in its 15th year, the HUMP Film Festival features a showcase of sex-positive short films, all curated by Savage. These dirty movies are created by people who aren’t porn stars but want to be one just for this festival. The films represent a variety of body sizes, shapes, ages, ethnicities, sexualities, genders, kinks, and fetishes. It is a unique celebration of creative sexual expression.
For me, “Ade in Bed,” “Undressed,” “Best in Show” and “Fuck First” resonated most from this year’s slate of 20 films. The above mentioned four shorts conveyed an honesty as well as a believable connection between the performers that felt real and sincere. It takes balls, (so to speak) to do what these non-actors are putting on film for the world to see and all four projects not only succeed but they also entertain.
HUMP! has become a national phenomenon selling tens of thousands of tickets, screening in over 50 cities across the United States and Canada.
“With our government and major corporations like Facebook waging war on so many of our sexual freedoms, just being at HUMP! is a modest act of resistance,” Savage explains. Facebook (and Facebook-owned company, Instagram) deactivated HUMP!’s business page for “explicit content,” significantly challenging the festival’s ability to promote to new and existing markets. HUMP! is working harder than ever to share the importance of sexual creativity, freedom, and expression. Dan and the team behind HUMP! are determined to get the word out about this unique film festival despite these challenges.
HUMP! audiences are diverse, curious, sex-positive people. Each year there is something new to see. They’ll be laughing, squealing, and occasionally peeking at the screen through their fingers. It is a fun, unforgettable, and liberating experience.
